Batman: Earth One is a take it or leave it book and I think I would ultimately leave it. Following the success of Superman: Earth One, DC tried to do the same thing with Batman but, in my opinion, it fell on its face. While J. Michael Straczynski helms Superman: Earth One, Geoff Johns helms Batman: Earth One. There are two many changes made for the sake of change, not because they made the story better.

Batman: Earth One does show more humanity and personality than some dark knight tales, but it just doesn’t have much going for it to make you care beyond that. The art was good even if some of the design style looked a bit campy. The ultimate failing came down to the dark attitude and the attitude of Bruce Wayne’s character. The best part was the inclusion of Lucius Fox.

batman earthone Book Review: Batman: Earth One

The sequel to Superman: Earth One volume one was an enjoyable ride. Volume two had Clark in Metropolis, writing for the Daily Planet, and saving the world as Superman. The book has the right tone for a Superman story though it does get bogged down in some spots. With the mythos being completely rewritten, there is a lot that is unknown and differs from the traditional canon. I sometimes felt like I just had to accept that I wasn’t going to get any more explanation than was provided.

In Superman: Earth One volume two the story shines through and the art is quality. More importantly, the story about Clark Kent is far more present than just “the adventures of Superman”. I think this is a good thing because it allows more personality and inner struggle to get a little more focus than the usual boy scout/punch things/flat personality. It’s a good read with some emotion. I’d recommend it as a read following Superman: Earth One volume one if you are looking to diversify your comic book range, wish you could find a good Superman book, or want to see a different take on Superman’s origin story.

Review: Premium Rush

September 6, 2012 — Leave a comment

Premium Rush was a great movie. I was really surprised it came in 7th place after its opening weekend.

Premium Rush is a movie about bike messengers in New York City. The movie was fun to watch and action-packed. There was a lot of cinematic fun had with the movie included Action Man-style scenes projecting different possible routes. The plot worked well to hold the whole movie together and the characters fit their roles with little tweaks that made them interesting but realistic. Starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt, I’ve been looking forward to the movie since the first trailer was released.
