My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Venom is a great story that I hope leads to a long history for the character. Obviously everybody knows Venom and Eddy Brock but this story tells of the third (?) incarnation of Venom after Eddy and Mac Gargan (The Scorpion). This time the host is Flash Thompson. Yes, Peter Parker’s high school bully, drunk, disabled, President of the Spider-Man fan club, war hero Flash Thompson and it is an excellent story.

It is an origin story involving a character with flaws, discovering new abilities and limits, and trying to have a personal life as well. The story sets up the characters, the plot, and even an arch-enemy in this trade paperback.

The story is well-written and seems very promising for a long run with the character. The artwork is very fluid – it is able to adapt to the story as need be. You can tell who is in control, Flash or the symbiote just with a look at the art.

I am definitely looking forward to volume 2.
